EV charging stations are located at the end of each of the three scenic drives on the Isle of Wight that are less than 20 miles long.

The Isle of Wight is a beautiful destination, and one of the best ways to explore its stunning landscapes is by taking a scenic drive. If you’re driving an electric vehicle, it’s important to know where you can recharge your car. Here are three of our favourite scenic drives on the Isle of Wight that are under 20 miles and have an electric vehicle charging point at the end of each trip.

Yarmouth to Freshwater Bay (Via Alum Bay)

This scenic drive takes you from the historic town of Yarmouth to Freshwater Bay, a beautiful cove on the south western coast of the island. The towns are actually only around 3 miles apart, but the route you can drive will take in the beautiful coastline, and some of the most striking high chalk downs.  Along the way, you’ll pass through quaint villages (Yarmouth, Totland, The Needles Landmark, then back down to Freshwater Bay and back into the village).

You won’t be disappointed with the rolling countryside, with stunning views of the sea and coastline.

At the end of the drive, if needed, you can recharge your electric vehicle at the Freshwater Tesco’s Car Park, which has a charging point for EVs.  Freshwater is a delightful village with plenty of refreshment stops.  Whilst your car is charging you can take a short walk over the road where you will notice the old station house, this is the start of the walk back to Yarmouth via the old railway line and provides a short 20 minute walk just down to the top of the river Yar if you are waiting for charging.

 Ryde to Brading

This scenic drive takes you from the seaside town of Ryde on the north eastern side of the island to the village of Brading, where you can explore the Roman Villa and the medieval church of St. Mary. Stick to the coastal villages for the drive, along the way, you’ll pass through Seaview, St Helens and Bembridge, with stunning views of the island’s coastlines and Harbours.

Brading Roman Villa is really worth a visit, as it houses one of the finest examples of a Roman settlement, laid out beautifully, you can also stop for refreshments.

At the end of the drive, you can recharge your electric vehicle at the Brading Roman Villa, which has a charging point for EVs and is also only a short 25 minute walk into Sandown.

Sandown to Ventnor

This scenic drive takes you from the seaside town of Sandown to the charming town of Ventnor, located on the southern coast of the island. Along the way, you’ll pass through quaint villages (Bonchurch and Shanklin) and beautiful countryside, with stunning views of the sea and coastline.

Drive safely and take in the views, the roads can get narrow at points.  The drive in total is under 10 miles, but you will feel like you are driving through a tropical paradise with steep hills (St Boniface Down with a summit of 241 meters) and the deep valley of the Landslip area.  There are plenty of places to stop and take in the view or have refreshments.  (Check out the Bonchurch Landslip Car Park, or drive down the narrow winding road to Monks Bay. There is a large car park just before the beach, about 100 yds from the seafront)

At the end of the drive, you can recharge your electric vehicle at the Ventnor Botanic Garden, which has a charging point for EVs and also a fabulous place to stop and explore in any weather.
